What you can do

In this brutal world, there are many causes worth putting your time, effort and money into. But there's probably nothing you can do that will save more lives, per dollar or hour you invest, than to support an East Timor solidarity group. Here's how to get in touch with them:

• East Timor Action Network (ETAN/US), PO Box 1182, White Plains NY 10602; phone: 914 428 7299; http://www.etan.org/
fax: 914 428 7383; e-mail: cscheiner@igc.apc.org. (This is also the UN Office for the International Federation for East Timor.)

• East Timor Alert Network (ETAN/Canada), PO Box 562, Station P, Toronto M5S 2T1; phone & fax: 416 531 5850; e-mail: etantor@web.apc.org.

• For information on solidarity groups in other countries, contact either of the above organizations or the East Timorese resistance itself (CNRM, POBox 2155, Darwin NT 0801, Australia; phone: 61 69 855 678;
fax: 61 69 855 622).

So our stories have made you sad, you tell me. Yes, this I can understand...but tears are not the right response. For every painful story there is one of beauty, one to learn from....You must never forget the art of enjoyment. Otherwise the pain of survival will crush you.
